They accuse the studio of infringing three patents.
pocket pair have offered details on this website about the order that was received from The Pokémon Company and Nintendo.
This one asked registered last September 19 In the Tokyo district, we recognize that the studio violated “multiple patents” from other companies with its Palworld video game.
We have not yet requested the more specific details of this order, but the studio has confirmed that it is very clear that they are accused of infringement:
- JP7545191 – Object storage system patent for capturing images in virtual space
- JP7493117 – Tracking system patent for using objects to capture images in a virtual space
- JP7528390 – Patent for riding creature system
The patents themselves were filed in Japan following the anticipated launch of Palworld, which was produced in April 2024. Respectively, JP7545191 was filed in July, JP7493117 in February, and 7528390 in March 2024.
As soon as the application is initiated, there is speculation among industry professionals who could address these same patent issues. Según indicated last September and the intellectual rights lawyer Andrew Velzen from GamesIndustrythese very new patents are registered through priority channels in Japan as derivatives of other existing patents. The original patents also contain equivalent counterparts in the United States, filed in September 2022.
Pocketpair indicated that Nintendo and The Pokémon Company paid precautionary measures against Palworld and sent them 5 million dollars (about 31,000 euros) to one of the companies.
The Palworld studio has indicated that it will defend its position in this case during future legal proceedings.
